A San Diego Casino Getaway That Isn’t Vegas!

Located only 30 minutes away from downtown San Diego, Sycuan Casino Resort is a luxurious casino vacation with a fraction of the travel time compared to Vegas! From live music shows, award winning musicians, bourbon aged wood grilled steaks, and even a lazy river… Sycuan Casino Resort is an SDFoodies favorite that’s close, relaxing, and exciting!

Our Weekend at Sycuan Casino Resort

30 minutes away from downtown San Diego, in the rolling hills of east county, sits an oasis known as Sycuan Casino Resort. This beautiful resort features 12 stories of luxurious rooms, most of which feature balconies overlooking the mountains or pool. Of course you may want to visit for the casino games, but you’ll stay for the extra large lazy river, delicious steakhouse, and luxurious spa …. perfect for relaxing the day away!

The rooms at Sycuan Casino Resort are our favorite after a long day! They are massive, well decorated, and most feature massive balconies overlooking the local mountains.

Ashley can be very particular about bathrooms, she always likes the nice ones, and these are 100% Ashley approved.

The beds come in a few different sizes, where we always opt for a king, and are never disappointed. No weird lumps or springs, and the sheets are spotless and well pressed!

If you can spring for a poolside view, we highly recommend it! The view faces west and you’ll get a great sunset view over the pool!

Dining is obviously a huge component of how SDFoodies does vacations! So it’s always important that we find a good spot while we’re on vacation. Sycuan Casino Resort has several options and arguably the best in town, for a Casino Resort! From their signature steakhouse - Bull and Bourbon, asian fusion - Pink Buddha, sports bar - Rank and File, all day eatery - Viewpoint, a poolside spot - Retreat Lounge, as well as a very diverse food court … you will find EVERY option you’re looking for at Sycuan Casino Resort.

The dining room at Bull and Bourbon

We had a short weekend getaway, so we could only pick one spot for our trip. Bull and Bourbon is our favorite before heading to a show or enjoying a night away! This full service steakhouse, overlooking the pool, features well mixed cocktails and a stocked bar, paired with steakhouse classics. Here bourbon aged steaks are rested in their dining room, while their talented kitchen team carves up a variety of cuts perfect for any foodie.

I started off with a Port Aged Old Fashioned, which is rested for 60 days in port barrels allowing it to pick up subtle nuances, and overall making the entire cocktail into something unexpected! Ashley loves a good glass of wine and is excited that they serve her favorite — Chandon Brut Rose — as well as some incredible wine flights, perfect for trying something new!

Steaks, steaks and more steaks! You can’t go wrong here. From the 8oz. Filet Mignon, of Creekstone Farms in Arkansas City, KS, to the 50oz Prime Tomahawk, from Greater Omaha, NB, there are steaks in all shapes, sizes and prices! We also love that they whiskey age some of their steaks, which adds some delicious subtle flavors that are a must try!

We got two steaks, Ashley is a huge fan of Filet Mignon, especially when paired with their bernaise sauce. Of course we also had to order her favorite, the Baked Truffle Mac and Cheese made with three-cheese fondue, and topped with brioche crumbs!

The perfect meal for Ashley! Chandon Brut Rose, Filet Mignon, and Truffle Mac and Cheese

My favorite is a good ribeye and it’s perfect here! Cooked to my preference, a medium rare, this ribeye had a delicious wood coal char. For sauces, you can’t go wrong with their classic bordelaise or red wine sauce, but we also recommend checking out their au poivre, chimichurri, or creamy horseradish for something different!

After a luxurious dinner at Bull and Bourbon, its just a quick walk over to Sycuan’s Live & Up Close music venue for an incredible show from talented musicians! We planned our trip to include one of our favorites, Gary Levox, or better known as the lead singer from Grammy award winning band Rascal Flatts. The music venue is intimate and definitely not a large stadium setting, so you know that you will be nice and close to the band. Tickets are always reasonably priced, even for tickets in the first few rows!

One of my personal favorite parts is the very reasonably priced drinks, $5 White Claws at a concert?! That right there is reason enough to go check out this amazing venue! For ticket information visit here!
