Ahh Mister A’s, a bastion of class and decadence for over 60 year. You’ve likely heard about it, probably seen someone post about their unmatched 180 degree view, but have you ever been?
Since opening in 1965, this French American restaurant has been serving up San Diegians classy, elegant, delicious dishes to those searching for the best views in town. For years it was THE spot for an engagement, special news, graduation or promotion.
The Outdoor Patio at Mister A’s
Fast forward to the new Mister A’s where a bright light has emerged. Long time GM, Ryan Thorsen, bought the spot from long term owner Bertrand Hug and redesigned the space with splashy new modern touches, yet still kept the old school, classy touch!

Now, don’t worry, the restaurant still has its iconic view of downtown where you can see the planes touch down at San Diego International Airport. And of course, you can still expect that world class service and delicious food just as your grandparents did. However, the bar is the real winner of the remodel.
Cocktails and Bites at the Bar
Prior to Ryan Thorsen taking over and remodeling, the bar was overlooked. Now their bar takes over a whole wing of the restaurant, where guests are encouraged to casually enjoy a cocktail or two, small bites, and live music!
Speaking of cocktails, expect a major shift into the craft world here. Yes, you can still order your extra dry, dirty martini to sip on while watching the sunset, but now cocktail aficionados can order the unique and unexpected! From The Forarger with Mercantile Irish Whiskey, Cynar, Aperol, Chaga and Porcini Mushroom Bitters, to the light and refreshing Me & Mine with You & Yours Citrus Vodka, Creme De Peche, Cordaval Dix, Honey-Lemon Syrup, and Sparkling Grapefruit. These cocktails are exciting and delicious, perfect for bringing the foodie in your life something new!

The Me & Mine Cocktail at Mister A’s
Bites here are perfect for those looking for a quick snack or whole meal. Ranging from the off menu secret Bar Burger ,with gourmet accruements worthy of the 12th floor, to The Venison Carpaccio with Blackberry, Caper, Pecorino, Levain Crostini. Then there’s also my favorite, the Caviar Tater Tots with Russet Potato, Chive, Chantilly, Caviar. These dishes truly showcase the new direction of Mister A’s — classy yet approachable!
